The research group of Health Informatics and Innovation published an instrument and a toolkit to assess users´digital health literacy.

The research group of Health Informatics and Innovation, Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen has designed the "eHealth Literacy Questionnair" (eHLQ) and the "eHealth Literacy Assessment Toolkit" (eHLA), which are made to assess users’ digital health literacy. The questionnaire and toolkit has recently been published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR). The work builds on the e-health literacy framework published in 2015 in collaboration with Professor Osborne’s research group at Deakin University, Australia.

An understanding of users’ e-health or digital health literacy is essential to understand their knowledge and skills, as well as trust and motivation to use digital health technology and services. This may help to overcome  barriers and facilitate adoption of e-health solutions.

The eHealth Literacy Questionnair (eHLQ) includes 57 items across the 7-dimensions of the eHealth Literacy Framework (eHLF). "It is designed to be used to understand and evaluate people’s interaction with digital health services." (p.2 Kayser et al 2018)

The eHealth Literacy Assessment Toolkit (eHLA) includes 4 health-related tools and 3 digital-related tools. The toolkit "assess individual’s knowledge and skills related to digital literacy and health literacy." (p.1 Karnoe et al 2018)

These tools will help assess how patients handle information and actively engage in their health condition "with the ultimate goal of patients being able to take better care of their own health." (p.2 Karnoe et al 2018)
