The Copenhagen Center for Health Technology have launched a new app for collection of respiratory data. This is to be used for building artificial intelligence approaches to automatic detection of pulmonary-related diseases – including COVID-19.
The iBreath app collects sound samples while you read a text, and a few seconds of breathing and coughing. In order to enable this research we are launching a large scale, crowdsourced data collection from healthy and non-healthy participants through the iBreath app. The app collects basic demographics and medical history data, as well as voice samples while you read text on the screen and a few seconds of breathing and coughing. The app will also ask if you have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, since this is correlated with respiratory symptoms.
Citizen Science
This project is an example of citizen science where citizens can donate data for scientific purposes. All data is collected and donate completely anonymous.
This project is done together with a range of Danish medical doctors and researchers as part of the coronamonitor.dk initiative as well as part of the COVID-19 Sounds project at the University of Cambridge.
The purpose of this research is to collect data to inform the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases including any linkage to COVID-19. This is done by developing machine learning algorithms, based primarily on sounds of the participants' voice, breathing, and coughing. We need many participants in order to build predictive models and contribute to the early diagnosis of pulmonary diseases including any linkage to COVID-19.
