Privacy Policy

This study is subject to the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

According to the definitions in GDPR, this study does not collect any person-identifiable data. All data is fully anonymised at the source, i.e., on the phone. No person-identifiable data is stored on the phone or is transmitted from the phone and elsewhere.

The following data is being collected:

  • Demographics background including the participant's age group (decade) and overall medical conditions.
  • Daily symptoms including any COVID-19 test.
  • A sound recording of breathing (30 secs).
  • A sound recording of voice when reading a text aloud (30 secs).
  • A sound recording of coughing.
  • Coarse-grained geo-location.

All collected data is stored anonymously at Google's secure cloud-based Firebase databases. No further personal information will be collected. The data will be transmitted encrypted to the server. We will not collect identifiers which allow us to identify the user. The user identification is randomly generated on the phone.

The app displays a consent screen, where we ask the user's permission to collect and use the data for scientific purposes. The data will be used by researchers to understand the relationship between pulmonary disease using sounds, and potential linkage to COVID-19 symptoms.

Data may be preprocessed and shared more widely with the research community at a later stage. Incidental findings will not be fed back to participants or other parties. Users can leave the app and delete it at any time. Participants must be 16 years or older. Users can request that their data is deleted at any time by contacting us at cph.cachet@gmail.com and quoting the ID that appears in the app.
